The Basic Economic Development Course (BEDC) and the Economic Development Institute (EDI) are nationally renowned programs sponsored by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).

Both courses offer intensive training in basic economic development theory and practice. They are designed to equip participants with the tools necessary to compete aggressively and successfully for new growth in their communities.

EDI is held in several different cities across the US twice annually. The Basic Economic Development Course (KIED), a prerequisite to the Economic Development Institute (EDI), is held each summer in Lexington.

KAED awards up to two scholarships to EDI as part of its mission to develop professional skills. Recipients may attend either EDI course and are awarded full tuition. 

Must be a KAED member in good standing

Must work in economic development in Kentucky

Criteria	Weight
1. Financial need Consideration given in priority order: 1) nonprofit, 2) local government, 3) state government and  4) for profit business	25%
2. Volunteer contribution to KAED	20%
3. Economic need of organization, community, region or service area	15%
4. Review of background and personal resume	15%
5. Demonstration of desire to enhance professional development	15%
6. Number of years as member of KAED	10%
