KAED is proud to recognize its members for excellence in promoting economic development in Kentucky and supports the continued education of its members through a variety of scholarship programs and award recognitions.
Economic and Community Development Training The Basic Economic Development Course (BEDC) and the Economic Development Institute (EDI) are nationally renowned programs sponsored by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).
Both courses offer intensive training in basic economic development theory and practice. They are designed to equip participants with the tools necessary to compete aggressively and successfully for new growth in their communities.
EDI is held in several different cities across the US twice annually. The Basic Economic Development Course (KIED), a prerequisite to the Economic Development Institute (EDI), is held each summer in Lexington.KAED awards up to two scholarships to EDI as part of its mission to develop professional skills. Recipients may attend either EDI course and are awarded full tuition.

1. Financial need
Consideration given in priority order: 1) nonprofit, 2) local government, 3) state government and 4) for profit business | 25% |
| 2. Volunteer contribution to KAED | 20% |
| 3. Economic need of organization, community, region or service area | 15% |
| 4. Review of background and personal resume | 15% |
| 5. Demonstration of desire to enhance professional development | 15% |
| 6. Number of years as member of KAED | 10% |
