IEDC Scholarships

The H.C. Nutting Jim Callahan Scholarship Award was created to recognize those economic developers who strive to keep abreast of the ever-changing field of economic development and wish to pursue continuing education at an International Economic Development Council (IEDC) course offered in Kentucky.  Scholarship(s) are awarded annually to a KAED member in good standing who works in economic development in Kentucky. A minimum of three years as a member of KAED is required. Applicants must demonstrate a level of experience and expertise in the economic development field, and a desire to enhance his or her professional development.

H.C. Nutting
named this award in honor of Representative Jim Callahan for his nine terms in the General Assembly and for serving as the House Majority Caucus Chairman. He stood as Northern Kentucky's highest-ranking member in the House of Representatives. Rep. Callahan worked on the Kentucky Tourism Development Act that created tax credits for major tourist attractions. He also sponsored the Higher Education Reform Act of 1997 that created the Bucks for Brains program, and consolidated the community college and technical school systems creating the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS).

All prerequisites and selection criteria for the H.C. Nutting Jim Callahan Scholarship Award must be met by all applicants for eligibility. Final approval of the scholarship awards are made by action of the KAED Awards and Scholarship Committee and  H.C. Nutting.
